Support Heading Home

For many years, faith communities, philanthropists, nonprofit organizations and public agencies have worked tirelessly to address the issue of homelessness in Minnesota. We celebrate this tradition of giving, yet we recognize that homelessness remains a critical issue for our state.

The goal of Heading Home Minnesota is to end homelessness in Minnesota. By building on our past collective efforts and coming together to make new investments, we can leverage support from both public and private sectors to help get the job done.

Join us in this unprecedented partnership to end homelessness.

Heading Home Minnesota investment choices

Members of the philanthropic and business community and individuals who wish to invest resources in ending homelessness through Heading Home Minnesota may do so through several options outlined below.

Directly support nonprofit providers of services that address homelessness.

Support providers through contributions to the Heading Home Minnesota Partners Fund.

Support nonprofit provider agencies directly AND through the Partners Fund.

A donor may have specific nonprofit agencies already in mind, or may confer with the Executive Committee of Heading Home Minnesota on selecting providers that best match their giving priorities.

One family foundation in Minnesota initiated an RFP process to invite nonprofits to submit proposals, and used the Executive Committee of HHM to help them identify and select eligible grantees. Organizations addressing homelessness include many direct housing providers and several intermediary organizations such as the Family Housing Fund, the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund, and the Corporation for Supportive Housing.

The Partners Funds are flexible pools of private funds that support implementation of Heading Home Minnesota with 100% of all donated dollars passed along through grants to the provider agencies.

The Partners Funds are housed within either the Family Housing Fund or the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund, which in turn makes grants to nonprofit provider agencies to design and test creative ideas for providing services or addressing new ideas and opportunities rapidly, with a minimum of bureaucracy. Gifts to the Partners Fund can be restricted to specific populations or geographic areas upon donor request.

Why Give to Heading Home Minnesota?

  • Ending homelessness is the right thing to do and makes great economic sense.
  • 9,000 children, youth, and adults are homeless in Minnesota on any given night.
  • Investing in homelessness has a strong economic return on investment. The Wall Street Journal stated: “efforts to move the homeless into permanent supportive housing quickly can improve their lives and save taxpayer money.”
  • Heading Home Minnesota is a viable plan that creates 4,000 + units of permanent supportive housing for long-term homeless individuals and families.
  • Ending homeless is a massive undertaking—and no single entity or sector of our community can get the job done alone.
