Homeless Is My Address, Not My Name
On Wednesday, September 15th, Heading Home Hennepin, St. Stephens Human Services and the Family Housing Fund are sponsoring an audio-visual oral history art exhibition opening, entitled Homeless Is My Address, Not My name, hosted at The Chambers Hotel Burnett Gallery from 7pm to 9pm. This exhibition is the result of several years of photographic and audio documentation of people experiencing homelessness who have shared their stories in their own words. Currie Avenue Partnership Update
As of July 29, 2010, 10 Housing Case Managers have been hired, 54 people have been housed with an average length of homelessness of 8 years, and 80 more are engaged with the program, undergoing the intake and housing search process.

Gubernatorial Candidate Forum on Homelessness
On Monday, May 24, the Joint Religious Legislative Coalitionand the Minneapolis Downtown Congregations to End Homelessness presented agubernatorial candidate forum that focused on jobs, healthcare, andhousing. The forum was moderated byReverend Doctor Jim Gertmenian, Senior Minister at Plymouth CongregationalChurch in downtown Minneapolis. In attendance were GOP candidates Bob CarneyJr. and Leslie Davis, DFL candidates Margaret Anderson Kelliher, Matt Entenzaand Mark Dayton, and Independencecandidates Tom Horner, Rob Hahn and John Uldrich.
Over the course of 2 hours, each respective candidate wasallotted time to respond to a series of questions that addressed employment,healthcare and housing in Minnesota, and how those sectors related to statewideissues of poverty and homelessness. Eachcandidate asserted that they would commit to the statewide business plan to endhomelessness and would bolster existing efforts to end homelessness at thelocal level throughout the state.

New Youth Opportunity Center Breaks Ground
YouthLink, a youth human services nonprofit in downtown Minneapolis, recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Youth Opportunity Center that will be constructed at their site. Read about it here.
Currie Avenue Partnership honored by Hennepin County Board of Commissioners
The Currie Avenue Partnership, which exceeded the goal of raising $350,000 in funding to hire 10 case managers to house 150 people with disabilities living in the Currie Avenue shelters, was recently honored by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners. 3 Year Report and Planning Process
On February 22, 2010, The Minneapolis-Hennepin County Office to End Homelessness held a meeting at Plymouth Congregational Church to report on the first 3 years of implementation of the Heading Home Hennepin plan. On March 10, 2010, The OEH held a follow-up meeting at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church during which members of the Heading Home Hennepin's community discussed the first 3 years of the plan's implementation and developed new direction for the plan moving forward over the next 3 years. Project Homeless Connect 9
Minneapolis and Hennepin County held their 9th Project Homeless Connect event this past Monday, March 29. Thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers and service providers who worked diligently throughout the day, 2,100 people experiencing homelessness were served. More detailed results from the event will be available soon.
